What It Takes to Live in Peace

E.F. Schumacher linked peace and nonviolence to simplicity, explaining that world peace is shaken by the drive for wealth which "depends on making inordinate large demands on limited world resources" ... and leads to "Western corporate imperialism."

Let's Understand How Iraq Has Suffered

New York Times Reporter, Anthony Shadid, died.

In 2004, he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for "his extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended."

Shadid apparently suffered an asthma attack while covering the uprising in Syria.

He had suffered asthma all his life. (In asthma, irritants cause swelling to the bronchial tubes that can suffocate someone.) He was walking behind horses though he was terribly allergic to them.

I am very interested to read what he wrote about Iraq so I can understand the horrors of war.

May we be a peace loving and harmoneous people.

Will There Be A Strike in Iran?

Republicans are threatening Iran over its nuclear weapons program. But is anyone really afraid a country would nuke us -- we have 30,000 nuclear weapons, I learned in a class at the University of Maryland.

In another class we learned the concept of "mutually assured destruction," which says no sane country would attack a country with nuclear weapons. It would be mutually assured destruction.

If Iran is attacked, the true reason would be oil.

Note. In England, the people use five times less gasoline, per person, than people living in America. One reason is that the cities are designed to be walkable, which stands in sharp contrast to cities in America, which use zoning laws to put housing long distances from shopping.

In England, your doctors office is very close, often just across the street or down the road. There are many grocery stores close by and all kinds of stores, such as the hair cuttery, butcher shop, pharmacy, thrift stores (charity shops), used furniture shops, computer repair shops, bread bakery and so much more.

You don't have to have a car.

Above the shops are apartments.

Below is what it looks like:
